Earthweb.com reports that over 113 million Americans use iPhones. Globally, one billion people use an iPhone in their daily lives.

These figures demonstrate the widespread prominence that these Apple products have gained.

However, not all iPhones are created equal. Technology frequently leapfrogs forward, leaving its older models behind.

This fact is a frequent source of consternation for iPhone users. You may wonder if you should sell your current phone to get a new iPhone model.

The question is, how much is your iPhone worth? How much money could you get today from an iPhone resale?

This question could determine whether you decide to sell your phone. Fortunately, we can provide the answers you want in the guide below. Keep reading to discover your iPhone worth today!

The Value of iPhone 13 Pro Max Models

We’ll explore iPhone resale values by starting with the most recent options on the market. To that end, let’s break down the resale value of the iPhone 13 Pro Max

iPhone 13 Pro Max models have four primary versions. You can distinguish these versions by the storage capacity on their hard drives. The storage space levels include:

  • 1TB
  • 512GB
  • 256GB
  • 128GB

These models can fetch you several hundred dollars in their resale values. For example, let’s look at the average iPhone 13 Pro Max 1TB worth:

  • Like New: $1,141
  • Good: $1116
  • Poor: $1,045
  • Faulty: $811

At the lowermost end, an iPhone Pro Max 128GB could earn between $600-$930. Please remember that the iPhone 13 Pro Max is only one type of iPhone 13.

Generally, it will earn you the most money of the existing versions. However, even an iPhone 13 Mini 512GB could earn between $440 and $610. If you’d like to sell iPhone models, anything in the 13 lines could receive significant money.

The Value of iPhone 12 Models

Like the iPhone 13, there are several versions of the iPhone 12. These kinds include:

  • Pro Max
  • Pro
  • Mini
  • Standard

Each of these versions has various storage capacities. So, let’s talk about the standard iPhone 12 first.

The iPhone 12 is worth much less than an iPhone 13 Pro Max. An iPhone 12 can earn as much as $540 at the uppermost end. The lowest worth usually falls at $240.

The iPhone 12 256GB breakdown looks like this:

  • Like New: $540
  • Good: $480
  • Poor: $396
  • Faulty: $317

What about higher-end iPhone 12 models? An iPhone 12 Pro Max can earn significantly more than the standard iPhone 12.

iPhone 12 Pro Max models with the maximum storage allotment can bring in anything from $520-$780. Even the lowest storage capacity can fetch between $445-$720.

The Value of iPhone 11 Models

As you might expect, you won’t receive as much money when using an iPhone 11 for your iPhone trade-in. The iPhone 11 has more outdated technology and software than its more recent counterparts, making it less valuable to buyers.

However, several iPhone 11 models can still earn a substantial sum. How much you make depends on the type of iPhone 11 you sell.

The iPhone 11 has three versions:

  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max

The iPhone 11 Pro Max is usually the most valuable option of these three. This phone model can garner a sum of roughly $500.

This figure may rise depending on the storage capacity of the hard drive. In contrast, an iPhone 11 Pro usually earns between $400-$450. These numbers can fluctuate depending on the condition and storage space.

Finally, there’s the standard iPhone 11. When you sell iPhone 11 models, expect to receive roughly $340. Once again, your storage space and the phone’s condition could affect this number.

The Value of iPhone SE Models

iPhone SEs are less glamorous than many of their fellow iPhone models. These phones share many similarities with the iPhone 7, making it more of a comfortable fit for people who enjoy the older tech.

iPhone SEs come in two primary forms:

  • 2nd Gen
  • 3rd Gen

Because these phones are more subdued in their technological abilities, they’re often not as valuable as newer iPhones. Let’s say you have the best possible version of an iPhone SE 2nd Gen.

An SE 2nd Gen phone in like-new condition with 256GB storage would usually earn close to $200. In contrast, an SE 3rd Gen with the same features would garner roughly $300.

The Value of iPhone X Models

Remember when the iPhone X was all the rage? It doesn’t seem that long ago, but the phone is already a little behind the times. However, these phone models can still earn a substantial sum.

First, let’s go through the different iPhone X models. These include:

  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max

The more recent the phone model, the more likely it is to have a higher value. The iPhone XS Max can earn close to $330 if it’s in excellent condition. An iPhone XS can usually reach $280.

In contrast, the iPhone XR and X usually receive $255 and $220, respectively. These sums assume that the phones are in their best condition and have sizeable storage capacities.

How Much is Your iPhone Worth If It’s Before the iPhone X?

Finally, we reach the iPhone models that predate the iPhone X. These begin with the iPhone 8 Plus and go back to the iPhone 2G.

Many buyers won’t accept the oldest generations of iPhones. Those who do will likely give you $20 or less for them.

iPhone 8 and 7 models can still earn a decent value. A standard iPhone 7 could receive as much as $100 in a resale. You can receive roughly $220 for an iPhone 8 Plus.

Apple sold an estimated 60 million AirPods in 2019, and that was well in advance of this latest 2020 launch of the new AirPods Pro. So if your original AirPods are looking a little dull next to the newer versions, you’re certainly not alone!

But at their high price point, it’s tough to see AirPods as disposable. While you won’t recoup your original price, nor can you expect to make enough to afford the new Airpods Pro, a smart sale of your used AirPods can net you enough to offset part of the purchase, as well as any lingering guilt over the upgrade.

Keep reading for a handy guide to putting your used AirPods for sale.

Removing Your Used AirPods From Your Devices

When you’re ready to sell your used Apple AirPods, you’ll want to first unpair them from devices like your iPhone or iPad. This can help prevent your devices from searching for them to connect in the future, and it can also keep you from confusing your old pair with any new headphones you buy, especially if you’re considering springing for the latest model.

First, you can set your AirPods to offline by placing them in their charging case. Next, log in to iCloud.com, where you’ll head to “Find My iPhone.” From there, click “All Devices” and then “AirPods.”

From here, you should see an option to remove your AirPods from your account. If you don’t, you may simply need to click the “AirPods” option toward the top center of the screen. There should be an “X” beside this option, and clicking it will remove the AirPods from your device’s memories.

Cleaning Your AirPods

If you’re going to sell your old AirPods, you’ll want to make sure they’re clean from your use. This can help you sell them at a higher price in some cases, as a buyer is much more likely to believe they’re in good condition if they look as clean and glossy as they did when you first brought them home.

It’s important to note that Apple has some specific requirements and recommendations for cleaning AirPods and EarPods on its website, including the use of a 70% isopropyl alcohol or Clorox wipe.

Note that you should never use any other solutions or water to clean your devices, as they are not water-resistant. The last thing you want to do is damage your devices just when you’re primed to sell them!

You can only use the cleaning wipes on certain parts of the exterior service, but never on the speaker mesh. Don’t forget to also wipe down your charging case while you’re at it, including the inside.

Apple recommends not using sharp objects to clean your AirPods themselves. However, depending on the amount of debris, you may want to grab a toothpick to gently clear away any buildup. Once you’re finished, leave all components out to air dry.

If you have a phone cleaning tool that disinfects devices using UV light, now is a good time to use that as well.

Where to Trade In

If you’re looking to trade in your AirPods, you can expect to earn significantly less money than you would by selling outright. Companies like Amazon will buy them for around $30, provided that they power on. In some cases, you may also be able to trade in broken, defective, or even cracked AirPods, though you’ll receive just a few dollars for the trade.

These options may be worth considering if your pair is inoperable or in poor condition, or if you don’t care about the amount of money you’re getting. However, if your devices are in decent condition, some options for outright sale may earn you more money than a trade-in could, and just as fast.

Where to Sell

While your first instinct may be to turn to Apple, selling your used AirPods back to their original source, Apple’s trade-in program isn’t an option here. The program doesn’t buy old AirPods, as they deteriorate too rapidly for the company to resell.

Another option is to list your used pair for sale yourself through services like eBay or Facebook Marketplace, where you may get about $50 for them. However, these markets tend to be oversaturated with these devices in many areas, and you’ll have to deal with additional fees as well as lowball offers and scams.

For the easiest option, we’ll take those deteriorated AirPods off your hands at a great price. This can be much easier and more straightforward, allowing you to sell fast without waiting for buyers to bite.

Tips for Selling Your AirPods

Depending on what option you choose for selling, you may be able to tweak the amount of money you earn by selling the AirPods separately from their charging case.

In some cases, you may find success by listing your charging case for sale for $40-50 and your AirPods for an additional $50. However, this depends on the market in your area, as well as how much time you want to spend waiting for the right buyer.

Make the Most of Your Sale

Your used AirPods have served you well during their time with you, and considering the tips above as you sell can ensure that they offer more money during a resale as well. The money you recoup with the right sale can even put you in a great position to upgrade to your next pair of headphones!

Looking to upgrade your iPhone to another iPhone or even switch to a Samsung phone?

Whether your iPhone is one-year-old or five-years-old, there are still ways to make sure you are getting an excellent resale value.

If you are wondering how to sell your old iPhone, then look no further. We will cover the insight you need to make sure you are getting the most cash possible.

How Much Can You Sell Your Old iPhone for?

Depending on your devices’ age and condition, the price you can sell it for may vary.

For example, an iPhone 7 from 2017 sells for around $140-$170 on sites like eBay. Meanwhile, newer devices like the iPhone 11 sell for around $550. Most online sites will charge a fee to use their service, so factor in that cost when calculating your take-home amount.

Even if your device is older, you can still get cash for it. Even an iPhone 5s sells for around $80. Even on Apple’s website, they show you the general prices for trading in your device. However, sometimes that can be on the lower end.

Before You Sell Your iPhone

Before you sell your iPhone, you must know how to prepare it for sale. This means making sure that all of its contents are deleted, and accounts signed out.

Additionally, it’s a great idea to give the phone a thorough cleaning. This way, if you are selling your phone to an individual, they won’t try to barter you down for minor debris that may not look great.

Make sure to unpair any Apple Watches, AirPods, or other Bluetooth devices and have a thorough backup. This way, you have peace of mind that your data is secured and restorable on your new device while not remaining on the old one.

Lastly, if you have the original box and accessories, make sure to neatly put everything together in its original packaging. This way, you have a neat and organized package that offers all the original content.

Where to Sell Your iPhone

If you wonder where the best place to sell your iPhone is, then here are the various options to make sure you can get the value you deserve. From retail trade-ins, selling it privately on social media, or going to a buy-back retailer, here are some options that work for everyone.

Trade-Ins

If you want a simple way to get money for your device, then trade-ins are an easy way to go. Most retailers, including Apple, will take your own iPhones and provide credit via in-store towards a new upgrade or in a gift card format.

These method works well if you plan to turn around and buy a new iPhone at the same time. However, if you are looking for the best cash deal, sometimes retailers can skimp on giving you the most value your device deserves.

Still, if you care about in-store credit and plan to utilize it, you can get some high trade-in values. Just keep in mind that it is not versatile, like cash.

Social Media Marketplace Selling

If you want to sell your iPhone locally, there are ways to leverage social media to get a decent buyer. However, this usually takes longer than usual and requires more effort, as you have to provide photos, original packaging, and more.

Though you can sell your iPhone at a higher price, it may be a waiting game to get a proper bidder. Also, sometimes if you sell locally, you have to meet in person to ensure that the deal is legitimate.

All in all, social media marketplace selling may be good in some scenarios, but it really depends on the time and effort you want to spend selling your devices.

Buy-Back Retailers That Let You Sell Your iPhone for Cash

There’s really nothing like cold hard cash. If you want a simple way to get cash for your old iPhone, then going to a buy-back retailer is an excellent way to sell your old devices.

This method is best if you want cash for its versatility and don’t want to be tied down to a particular retailer for an in-store credit or want to go through the trouble to sell your iPhone off privately.

Additionally, most buy-back retailers allow you to sell more than one device. This is a great option if you have a lot of older tech sitting around collecting dust.

Whether you opt for an online buy-back retailer or a brick and mortar store, you are sure to get a fair deal on your old iPhone. Online retailers sometimes take longer to verify your device and then provide your cash, while brick-and-mortar places offer you cash on the spot.

Get the Most Money Out of Your Old iPhone

No matter how you plan to sell your old iPhone, there are ways to ensure that you get the most money possible. This includes taking care of your iPhone for the duration you have it and knowing what your iPhone is worth when it comes time to sell.

From there, narrow down the best method for you to sell your device. Whether that’s through a trade-in, social media marketplace, or a buy-back retailer, do your homework on the best retailer who provides the best deals.

Also, be sure to check out your local brick-and-mortar stores. They tend to offer excellent deals for your old devices and buy your device the same day.

Anticipation is building as Apple users get ready for the upcoming, long-awaited iPhone 12. People are speculating about its next-generation, high-quality specifications. This only makes everyone excited and curious about its arrival on the market.

And it seems the only way you won’t miss out on the wonderful new features of the iPhone 12 is to buy them.

You don’t need two smartphones anyway so you can sell your old one. But doing that as-is without any preparation will prove problematic down the road. Here are the top 6 tips on how to prepare an iPhone for sale and why you should do it.

1. Create Backups

When you learn how to prepare an iPhone for sale, you have to familiarize yourself with backups. You don’t want to regret losing some important files while you’re getting used to your new smartphone! Before it’s too late, this is your chance to sort through all your folders to keep data you want to preserve.

You could utilize an external hard drive for safekeeping. Alternatively, take advantage of free cloud storage accounts online such as your iCloud.

To do that, make sure you have a good internet connection to prevent upload failures. Go to Settings and select your Apple ID account. Open the iCloud tab, turn iCloud Backup on, click the Back Up Now, and wait for it to load.

2. Log Out on All Your Accounts

You won’t be needing your accounts on your old phone anyway, so it’s time to log them out. It could spell trouble if the new owner of your phone can get access to your accounts.

A great way to keep track of everything is to write down all your emails and their passwords. For your safety, jot it down somewhere only you have access.

Keep your passwords secure by writing them in a physical place. Avoid note apps as there are a few privacy risks at play.

3. Unpairing Apple Watch and Air Pods

Follow these steps to unpair your Apple Watch:

Go to the home screen and select the Watch application. Find the My Watch tab at the lower-left part of the screen. Click that and the Apple Watch account (with your name on it) at the top.

You could see the list of devices paired with the application in this step.

Find the one you’re going to say goodbye to and tap the ‘I’ sign on the right side. Press the Unpair Apple Watch button and confirm that you are unpairing with the device.  A pop-up will appear for further verification then you’re done!

For Air Pods, go to your Settings and select Bluetooth before clicking on the ‘i’ sign. Tap Forget This Device and another pop-up will appear for security and confirmation purposes. Fill out your account information and you’re good to go.

4. Erase the Contents of Your Device

Make sure you have backups of all your precious and important files inside your iPhone. Next, get all your emails, passwords, and other similar information and write them down. We’re only making sure because the next step consists of wiping all the contents in your smartphone clean.

As a disclaimer, you should know that you won’t be able to take this back once you go through the process.

To erase and prep an iPhone for sale, open the Settings and select the General tab. On the lowest part, click on Reset followed by Erase All Content and Settings. You will receive a warning, if you’ve already had a backup then you can tap Erase Now.

After entering your passcode, confirm your choice by selecting Erase iPhone. This will start the set-up process which you first saw when you bought your iPhone.

5. Check the Physical Condition of Your iPhone

Before selling, make sure your iPhone is clean and has no dents and cracks along the edges and/or at the back. The appearance and condition of your phone can increase and decrease its value.

Clean and disinfect your iPhone thoroughly first. The general cleaning advice is to use a microfiber towel, 70 % of isopropyl alcohol, and ammonia-free wipes. Do not clean it with household cleaning agents because these can scratch the surface glass.

Stay away from compressed air because of the chemicals and temperatures it lets out. If you can afford it, consider investing in minor repairs and fixes. You are more likely to get a better deal with a newer, better-looking phone.

6. Where to Sell an iPhone?

Recheck all the steps to ensure that you won’t have any security and privacy issues in the long run because of some careless mistakes. If you want to get the most out of selling an iPhone, you have to do this much at least.

Now we got that out of the way, you are ready to sell it anytime you want!

You can go to your local electronics stores or to a market near you. There’s an increase in the online demand for quality iPhone smartphones due to the pandemic. Beware of scammers who charge you, so it’s better to take it straight to an actual store that offers trade-in services.
